Dveri: “EU has no alternative” costs us way too much

BELGRADE – On the occasion of yesterday’s press conference held by the Prime Minister of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, a member of Dveri, Bosko Obradovic, issued a statement.

“European Union has no alternative” policy started by [Boris] Tadic, and continued by Dacic’s and Vucic’s regime, has already costed us way too much in the past.
Many national and state interests have already been sacrificed because of the entry of Serbia into the EU: from the surrender of the military and political leadership to the Hague Tribunal, anti-Constitutional Brussels agreement and shutdown of institutions of Serbia in Kosovo and Metohija, to the conclusion of the unilateral and economically damaging the Stabilization and Association Agreement with the EU.
By accepting a dictation from Brussels that Serbia must not support higher exports to the vacant Russian market, as of today the Government of Serbia is ready to sacrifice the only remaining hope and chance for economic and agricultural survival and development of Serbia in the name of the European Union.
The first question is what are moral or any other obligations that Serbia has to the EU? We are not members of the EU and this accession path is too long with numerous negative trade-offs. The EU bombed us, introduced sanctions against us, blackmailed us, pressured and economically exploited us in different ways, so that today it would ask us for “moral solidarity” and not to use the historic opportunity to increase exports to Russia.
First of all, even if there wasn’t this much vacant space on the Russian market, Serbia would have to seek new markets outside the EU and, at the state level, support domestic production and export-oriented industries, and one of the most important emerging markets is the Russian market, the Customs and future Euroasian Union led by Russia.
Today we are witnesses that the Government o Serbia denies that perspective for the sake of vague EU future, because at this moment no one can, with certainty, say that we will and when we will enter the EU, because more and more voices say that the EU is the past and that its future is highly questionable.
Is it reasonable at such moment to give up on our own economic and agricultural opportunity? And then what is the meaning of visit of our Minister of Agriculture to Russia, when she can not negotiate anything with Russian partners? And just for this, but also for the next year, when we could have prepared a much larger product offering?
This is just another proof what all Serbian governments, from October 5th to the present, have been prepared to sacrifice for the sake of the perilous path to the EU, as well as perennial claims of Dveri that authorities are not allowed to develop stronger relations with Russia due to the blackmail of the EU. Dveri movement expresses strong opposition to the this stance of the Government of Serbia.
