Asylum seekers from Serbia have zero chance of staying in EU

BELGRADE – Asylum seekers from Serbia have practically zero chance of staying in EU countries and they will be returned to Serbia one way or another, the deputy head of the EU Delegation to Serbia, Oscar Benedict, said Tuesday.
The EU is very focused on the migration issue, which should be viewed from two aspects – one is migration from war-ravaged regions, and the other – asylum seekers coming from Serbia, Benedict said during a break in the Third Belgrade Dialogues conference, held in the Belgrade City Hall.
This is a question of how to ensure a dignified life to returnees, he said.
The EU is backing Serbia in this field, both with expertise and assistance funds, he said, adding the Roma population was the most sensitive one.
The EU has set aside 11.5 million euros to date and it will earmark 20 million euros more for this purpose, Benedict said.
