BELGRADE – The Serbian government adopted on Thursday programs for recovery of the destroyed and damaged housing units in the areas that were affected by the severe floods in May, which envisages the building of 350 houses and the financial assistance for owners of 10,000 damaged family housing units.
The state’s recovery program will provide same design houses of 60, 80 and 100 square meters, depending on the number of household members.
If the building of a house is not possible, the family will get the financial assistance to resolve its housing issue, the government’s press office stated.
The families whose houses were destroyed, but the building of new ones is impossible, will receive the sum similar to the one needed for building same design houses, which means RSD 2 million for a 60 square-meter house, RSD 2.5 million for an 80 square-meter house, and RSD 3 million for a 100 square-meter house.
The government earmarked RSD 875 million for the implementation of the program for rebuilding the destroyed houses.
The funds for repair will be granted depending on the category of damage suffered: for the first category – RSD 120,000, for the second- RSD 200,000, the third – RSD 250,000, the fourth – RSD 350,000 and for the fifth category of flood damage – RSD 600,000.
The government allocated RSD 2.5 billion for the implementation of this program. Local self-governments will approve the applications for the assistance in line with the law on flood damage repair that was passed recently.
In the decision-making process, the authorities will take into consideration that the damage was registered in keeping with the law, and that it was caused by the floods and landslides that affected Serbia in May this year, and that the damage was inflicted to the housing unit in which the applicant resided permanently.
Local self-governments will forward the approved applications to the Office for Flood-Affected Areas Assistance and Rehabilitation, which will clear the ground for building the houses and granting the financial assistance, reads the release.
