The Serbian government adopted today a report which had been done on the ground together with international organizations and special teams.
The report covers the damage and losses sustained by all sectors – the destroyed and damaged houses, power-generating and other facilities, education institutions, infrastructure, roads, railways, production sector and agriculture.
According to the report, 485 houses were completely destroyed in the severe floods, and a large number of houses suffered damage, Mihajlovic told Tanjug.
She said that all citizens who were left without a home will have the roof over their head by this autumn or winter, adding that almost all roads in the flood-affected areas will be repaired and completed by October.
Those whose houses were damaged will get funds or construction material for rebuilding, healthcare centers will be repaired, and children will start their school year on time, the minister said.
However, it will be a major problem for the state to repair the damage in the energy sector, mining industry, and partly agriculture.
Mihajlovic said that the flooded mines of the Kolubara complex will not be capable of producing the needed quantity of coal by this winter, when the repair works in the energy sector should be completed.
Furthermore, around 12,000 ha of land will not be active during the entire season, which will result in a drop of the gross domestic product (GDP).
Mihajlovic said that the bill on recovery will soon be passed, and facilitate the smooth running of repair works.
She said that the report on the damage and losses caused by the floods will be presented at a donor conference in Paris on July 16, and that Serbia counts on donors’ assistance in the repair process, but also on loans, primarily when it comes to the repair of the road and rail infrastructure.
