BELGRADE – Number of births in 2013 in Serbia is 65,554, while the number of deaths is almost twice as high – 100,300, so the trend of negative natural increase continues, said Republic Department for Statistics (RZS).
Only eight municipalities in Serbia has positive population growth: Novi Pazar with 8.6 permille, then Tutin (7.9), Presevo (4.5), Bujanovac (2.6), Novi Sad (1.8), Sjenica (1.4) and Belgrade municipalities Zvezdara (1.0) and Surcin (0.4).
The highest birth rate is in the municipality of Tutin (16.2), Novi Pazar (15.6), Presevo (13.6), Novi Sad (12.3) and Savski Venac(12), while the lowest birth rate is in Razanj (4.9), Knic(4.4), Rekovac and Golubac – 4.1 and Gadzin Han (3.8).
The largest number of children are born by mothers aged 25-29 years, so the average age of mothers is 29.1 years. The highest mortality rate is in southern Serbia, in Crna Trava – 32.5 permille, then in Babusnica (25.3), Kucevo (24.8), Gadzin Han (24.7) and Razanj, where 23 persons die per 1,000 people, according to the RZS.
The average age of deceased in Serbia is 74 years, in the age range of 75 to 84 years. Observed by gender, women die more than men among the people of that age.
The leading cause of death in both sexes were diseases of the circulatory system (53.6 percent), while death from cancer is on the second place (21.5 percent), but this cause of death has become more frequent, with a tendency of further growth
